Brazil is a large country in South America. In fact, it is the 5th largest country in the world, over 2700 miles from north to south and nearly as far from west to east. By comparison, the Britain is less than 1000 miles from north to south and less than 500 miles from west to east.

It is surrounded by ten other countries, except on its east side, where it meets Atlantic Ocean. The northern part of Brazil is dominated by the Amazon Rainforest. A large range of mountains called The Andes run through most countries in South America but not Brazil.

Around 190 million people live in Brazil, compared to about 62 million in the UK. The capital city used to be Rio de Janeiro but was changed to Brasilia in 1960.
